Breda Court Hearings: Victims Share Traumatic Experiences with Suspect De W.

On the second day of the hearing, the court in Breda will discuss eleven files from victims who filed a complaint. It is becoming increasingly clear that De W. could become very angry when his victims wanted to stop. To a 16-year-old girl who was struggling with suicidal thoughts and came into the picture crying with cuts, the suspect chatted in capital letters: ‘stop whining and being pathetic’.

When the judge asked how he could react like that or call someone a whore, the suspect replied: “I was only concerned with myself.” The 16-year-old sent him a total of 332 videos.

De W. acted partly out of sexual pleasure and enjoyed exercising control over victims, he said. “I didn’t take their feelings into account at all,” he replied when the judges asked whether he sees women as sex objects or as avatars in a game.

“It wasn’t a game for me,” he said. “It was a way to express tension and negativity that I experienced at home and in other places.” He said he was referring to arguments at home, a history of bullying and an unpleasant sexual experience about which he did not want to say anything.

Afraid and having trouble sleeping

He sent his victims lists of sex acts and positions they had to perform for him and did not take no for an answer from the girls, as he himself admitted in court.

A 17-year-old girl at the time said in her victim statement that she was scared and could hardly sleep because of the threats. “If I fell asleep, it was because I was exhausted from crying. I fell asleep in class. I already had an easy time in high school and you made it worse. You took away a part of my life and completely destroyed.”

This week the court set aside three days for the case. In addition to yesterday and today, also tomorrow. There will be three more hearing days next week.

The Public Prosecution Service will come up with the sentence next Tuesday. The ruling will follow later than the usual period of two weeks. The judge will deliver a verdict on May 8.
