US Congress Faces Challenges in Passing Controversial Bill: TikTok Ban Vote Looms

The US Congress must now vote on the bill. No major problems are expected in the House of Representatives. Supporters indicate that about 350 of the 435 deputies would vote in favor of the law, which is more than enough for the required two-thirds majority. The vote in the House is scheduled for today around 5 p.m. Belgian time.

If the House approves the bill, the Senate must also organize a vote. That’s where it gets more difficult. After all, some senators have already indicated that they will oppose the law. This time, those senators come from both the Republican and Democratic parties.

Senator Rand Paul (R) of the state of Kentucky, among others, is a sharp opponent. “Americans choose to use TikTok. In my opinion, Congress should not simply take away the right to free speech from millions of Americans,” Paul said about the bill.
