/ world today news/ “For a few months, the assembly managed to empty the budget, ignite a crisis with Hungary and Serbia, disarm the Bulgarian army, expose the air defense, export high-terrain equipment to Ukraine, while Bulgaria slumbers.”
That’s what he said Ivo Hristov, member of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the EP (S&D), V the transmission “Face to face” by btv, 12/18/2023
With the project for constitutional reforms the rulers they do not cure the main vice of our constitution, namely – the complete loss of legitimacy of the current government. It is legal. But the social contract between citizens and parties has long been broken. Citizens do not vote. Even in the local elections that concern their street and their block, they did not come out to vote. They obviously have no confidence in this political class. And if we think that this government, which represents about one-seventh of the citizens of Bulgaria, mechanically assembled under the auspices of the American embassy, can find strategic solutions for Bulgaria, we are mistaken,” the MEP also said in the btv studio.
When asked whether all of this would have been worth it if we did enter Schengen and the Eurozone, Ivo Hristov answered that these are wishful prospects.
„We fail to fulfill the revenue part of the budget, but we cherish the Eurozone. We cannot maintain order in the parliament, and we claim that we can be the external border of the European Union. After all, Schengen itself is already functioning badly. There is talk of a reform of the Schengen zone, i.e. it is not clear exactly where we enter. Of course, entering would be right, we should have some European anchor, but under many conditions. Schengen entry itself does not pose any immediate risks. Joining the Eurozone is another matter. An updated and detailed feasibility assessment is needed. The Eurozone should not become an end in itself.”
The MEP outlined the risks facing the European Union after the rise of far-right parties in some of the member states. “A political mainstream culture has formed in Europe. This is the political class, radiated by the symbiosis with big business, which has settled comfortably in the media in Bulgaria and elsewhere. And which manages and distributes grades. Everything that is contrary to her understandings is billed as radical, extreme right and so on. I will remind you that during the migration crisis, Orban was pointed with the finger from all over Europe, because of the closed borders, and Bulgarian intellectuals like Ivan Krastev scolded the Bulgarians for “not having empathy for the migrants’ drama”. A few years later, the whole of Europe is wondering how to limit the influx of migrants, and it is even an argument to deny us entry into Schengen. This is how the parable happens. First the accusations of the mainstream, that Orbán is anti-European, and then reality hits them.”
In conclusion, Ivo Hristov outlined two risks facing Europe. “Europe can perish in two ways – from the growth of anti-Europeanism and from the hypnosis of conformism. We also have two poles that feed each other. We have the Europhobes who are around “Revival” and outside the parliament, but we also have the pseudo-Europeans in the so-called “assembly” – coalition of war, who are the worst face of Europe and Euro-Atlanticism. It disgusts people. Both of them work against the European enthusiasm of the Bulgarians. And even the European Commission is working against it. How should we perceive the fact that Ursula von der Leyen appeared in Kiev on the day that Kiev renounced May 9 as Victory Day. Europe uncomplainingly accepted the replacement of the Soviet coat of arms on the Victory Monument with the Bandera trident. This is classic historical revisionism. It can’t help but outrage people.”
“Europe was created as a project to guarantee the peace and prosperity of the continent. Europe becomes a supplier of projectiles, Europe spews bellicose declarations, talks of war to a defeated end. Europe accepts the blowing up of Nord Stream without asking who blew it up. Europe goes into recession because it buys expensive raw materials, Europe watches idly what happens in Middle East. How can Europe gain confidence from everything I have made?! Skepticism is growing. People are backing away,” said Ivo Hristov.
