Jakarta –
Government United States of America again drafting a bill that could potentially block it TikTok in his country. This plan is not only opposed by TikTok users in the US but also by Elon Musk.
As previously reported, a committee in the US Congress has passed a bill that will force ByteDance as the owner of TikTok to sell the application and if not the TikTok application will be banned in the US. Currently the US Congress is preparing to vote on the TikTok Bill this Wednesday (13/3).
In his post on Twitter/X, Musk said this bill was not just about TikTok. He cited a tweet by Congressman Thomas Massie claiming blocking TikTok had the potential to silence Americans’ free speech.
“This law is not just about TikTok, but also about censorship and government control,” Musk said in a tweet on X, as quoted by Gizmodo, Wednesday (13/3/2024).
Comment Musk This time it is inversely proportional to its position a few months ago. The owner of X has previously criticized TikTok and said that the application owned by ByteDance is full of antisemitic content and makes teenagers addicted.
“I stopped using TikTok when I felt its AI infiltrating my mind. It made me uncomfortable,” Musk said while speaking at the DealBook Summit conference at the end of November.
“In terms of antisemitic content, TikTok is full of it,” he continued.
Musk is not the only well-known figure to oppose the US government’s plan to block TikTok. Former US President Donald Trump also changed his mind and said blocking TikTok will only benefit Meta and ‘Zuckershmuck’ which seems to refer to CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
Even though Trump signed an executive order in 2020 forcing ByteDance to sell TikTok within 90 days or the application would face being blocked in the US, the plan failed.
