Bayern Munich, led by Harry Kane who scored three goals, passed the steamroller over Mainz this Saturday in a match that ended with an 8-1 win and in which Bryan Zaragoza had minutes in the second half when the match was already It was more than resolved.
In addition to Kane, who added a great assist to his three goals, midfielder Leon Goretza, with two goals and two assists, had a notable performance.
The victory was sealed in the second half after a first half that had almost everything. Four goals, two changes – one in each team due to injury – an alleged penalty, in favor of Bayern, sanctioned by the referee and rejected by the VAR and phases in which a lot already pointed to a Bavarian victory and others in which the Mainz seemed to be able to stand up.
Mainz, in the midst of the fight against relegation, came out with an aggressive plan. The first play ended in a cross into the area by Jae Sung Lee that caused some anxiety.
However, Bayern took the lead early, in the 13th minute, in a counterattack play.
It all started with a long punt Manuel Neuer -after a corner kick in favor of Mainz- and followed with a cross into the area by Thomas Müller from the right. Jamal Musiala received the ball and touched it for Kane to finish into an empty goal.
In the 20th minute came the second, scored by Goretzka who took advantage of a rebound after a header from Kane that crashed against the post after a free kick from Joshua Kimmich from the right.
Then Bayern had an excellent chance to increase, with a deflected shot by Kimmich in the 26th minute and in the 29th minute the VAR prevented a penalty shot that could have been the third.
Mainz seemed against the wall but got back into the game with a great free-kick from Amiri who nailed the ball into the top corner from 30 meters.
The first half had 7 minutes of stoppage time, which was justified by an injury to Joshua Guillavogui and by the VAR consultation time on the penalty taken back. Alphonso Davies had also left the field early due to a blow to the face but the change had been made quickly.
In stoppage time Gruda had the equalizer for Mainz on his feet and Kane, with a great pass from Goretzka into the area from the center of the field, scored the third for Bayern practically at the last moment.
The third had tipped the situation in favor of the Bavarian victory and Bayern scored the fourth, through Müller from Musiala’s cross, at the beginning of the second half. The play had been started by Kane in the center circle with a long ball to Raphael Guerreiro who had teamed up with Musiala
After the fourth goal, Bayern seemed to leave the ball and the field to Mainz but in the 60th minute, in a counterattack, Musiala scored the fifth from Kane’s pass and then Bayern showed no mercy
In the 66th minute, Serge Gnabry added a touch of elegance to the win with a back-heel to Goretzka’s center. In the 70th minute, Kane increased his header on a corner kick.
After the seventh the game died down a bit. Thomas Tuchel took the opportunity to give minutes to Bryan Zaragoza, who came on for Musiala, to Min Jae-Kim, who has lately been relegated to the bench against the centre-back pairing of Eric Dier and Mathjis de Light.
In the injury time, Goretzka was able to score the eighth with a header to the center from Kimmich’s right.
