Underground Currents are celebrating their 30th anniversary with a new album, where they cover their favorite songs. At the same time, they start a big tour in Greece & Cyprus to meet old and new friends.
The last stop of this tour will be Ioannina, where they will appear on April 28 at the “Polychoro Agora”.
“Underground Currents” is a musical group whose structural element is the concept of transformation. Based on this logic and on the occasion of the landmark year they are going through, they decided to release a new cover album entitled “30 years in the basement”.
The arrangements – transformations started seven years ago, during their rehearsals in the studio, as a musical game between them, and then they began to be transferred live on stage, pleasantly surprising their audience. The album includes a total of ten songs (four traditional, four rebetika, one folk and one rock), performed in a more experimental mood, recapturing the sound that the band has shaped over the last ten years working as a trio, realizing one of the most classic and powerful rock band formations (bass-guitar-drums). Grigoris Klioumis, the longest-serving member of Underground Currents, the voice and soul of the group, Tasos Peppas on drums, with more than twenty years in the underground, and Nikos Youssef, who was a close friend of the group and is now on stage above since ten years with his bass and musical saw. The album “30 years in the basement” is released on all digital platforms.
