A new entertainment venue will be built at the location in West where nightclub De School was housed for eight years. Initially, the School seemed to have to make way for new homes, but it now appears that these will take longer.
The new entertainment venue in the former LTS building on Dr. Jan van Breemenstraat will be called Tilla Tec. According to Passion Dzenga, one of those involved in the new initiative, it will be a ‘true new dynamic fusion of a bar, workspace, club, exhibition space and dance floor’. The place will have pop-up restaurants and dance floors and ‘all in the vibrant heart of Tilla Tec’.
Platform for young talent
The club wants to offer a platform to ‘smaller artists and DJs’ through workshops, performances and events. “We want to go beyond just booking big names. We strive to foster an environment where initiatives can flourish and communities can connect and have unique interactions with each other.”
The arrival of the new club is striking, because it was previously assumed that De School had to leave the building to make way for housing. “About a year ago we heard that we had to leave, but later it turned out that we could stay after all,” explains the School’s co-founder, Jochem Wertheimer. “But it was already too late for a restart of De School.”
Wertheimer is happy that there are now new initiators who are going to start something in the building. “Nothing but praise for this new project,” says co-founder of De School, Jochem Wertheimer, who thinks that the new project can ‘provide a worthy use for the space.’
More than a month ago, hundreds of people were still queuing to pay a last visit to De School in West. After eight years the club ceased to exist.
It is and remains a party location, that’s what it sounds like on both sides. Tilla Tec will open its doors on April 12.
