A couple was arrested and taken into police custody this Sunday March 10 in Lyon. A kilo of explosive was seized from their apartment. The police, who intervened with the Raid, also discovered “a false identity card and a booklet of Salafist literature”according to a police source.
A source close to the investigation indicates that it was thanks to information that the arrests were carried out. A woman was likely to make explosives in her apartment and resell them via social networks, according to our colleagues at AFP
At midday, the Rhône prefecture indicated on the social network X (ex-tweeter) that eight detonations would be heard. The message stated that “the mine clearance services intervene to secure and neutralize several fireworks”. This operation took place in the afternoon, in a public park. According to the police, it was necessary to find an open location with enough space. The detonations were heard over a wide area of the Lyon metropolis.

According to our colleagues at Le Progrès, the explosions were linked to seizures made earlier in the morning, during the search of the couple’s apartment. The demining operation took place in the Clos Layat park, near the accommodation, because the homemade bombs were considered “too unstable” to be transported. The park as well as the adjacent football fields were evacuated. The explosions made it possible to neutralize the products. Several residents were surprised. Some even filmed the mine-clearing operation; the Lyon Mag’ newspaper obtained one of these videos.
The couple, placed in police custody, was known to the services for criminal records. The judicial police were seized and the products destroyed due to their “dangerousness”, according to a police source. This Monday, March 11, at midday, the Lyon prosecutor’s office indicated that the two people were still in police custody for “firearms offences”. The prosecution also specifies that “investigations are still ongoing”. The anti-terrorism prosecution has not, at this stage, claimed to be seized of the case.
