Ukraine captures and interrogates a Cuban soldier recruited by Russia – 2024-03-10 20:03:59

Several users have shared a video on social networks that allegedly shows the statements given by a Cuban soldier who was recruited by Russia to participate in the invasion of Ukraine, who was captured during one of the most recent clashes in the Marinka area, in Donetsk region.

In the recording, shared by channels of Telegram, The soldier identifies himself as Frank Darío, who revealed details about his recruitment into Putin’s Armed Forces and the participation he had during the military conflict in the area.

The young man, born in the province of Guantánamo on September 6, 1989, assures that he signed his contract thinking that it was a work contract, since the Russian Army assured that they needed people to carry out construction work.

Darío indicated that he and several others accepted due to the promise of receiving Russian citizenship and a monthly salary of more than $2,700, however, the situation was very different from what he had been promised.

Despite lacking military training, the young man was sent to the front lines as part of a mission to transport portable solar panels when the bombing began in the region, regardless of the danger to which the new recruits were exposed.

“At no time did we know that we had to go to war, do you understand me? We came to do masonry work. They made us a contract in Russian, which we did not understand… When you realize it, you are in a bunker firing shots,” the young man declared in the middle of the interrogation.

The Cuban soldier indicated that his superiors never explained anything to them about the missions, since they spoke in Russian and did not have a translator to transmit the information to them.

Darío points out that he ended up in the custody of Ukrainian troops after a bombing in the area where he was traveling with two other Cubans and three Russian soldiers.

After the group was separated due to the explosions, he ended up lost in a forest until he ran into a Ukrainian soldier. Initially, he thought it was a Russian ally, but upon confirming that he was on the “enemy” side he decided to surrender and hand himself over without resistance.

The statements of the captured Cuban largely coincide with the information revealed by Cubans who decided to denounce that they were recruited based on deception. They maintain that the contract in a language they cannot read is being used by Russia to take advantage of foreigners who arrive in search of citizenship, which is described by many as fraudulent.

These are not the only complaints made in this regard, since several Cubans have gone to social networks to denounce the death of their loved ones after they were sent to the front by their Russian superiors.
