Arsenal Climbs to the Top of the Premier League with Last Minute Victory: Kai Havertz Strikes Again!

A goal in the last minutes by the attacking midfielder turned center forward, the German Kai Havertz, allowed Arsenal to provisionally climb to the top of the Premier League after their victory this Saturday in London against Brentford (2-1).

While waiting for the stellar duel on matchday 28 between Liverpool (2) and Manchester City (3), this Sunday, March 10, the ‘Gunners’ have 64 points, one more than the ‘Reds’ and two more than the ‘Citizens’.

Everything seemed to be going smoothly for the Londoners when Declan Rice confirmed his excellent form by heading home Ben White’s cross in the 19th minute.

While the euphoria has often been more audible and visible at the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks, this Saturday’s hard-fought victory contrasted with the 21 goals scored by Arsenal in the previous four rounds.

However, an error by Aaron Ramsdale on his return to the Arsenal goal in added time of the first half led to Brentford’s equalizer. Ramsdale’s attempted clearance – started due to the inability of the Spanish David Raya to play against the club that owns the rights to him and that loaned him to Arsenal – hit Yoanne Wissa and ended up inside the net.

The English goalkeeper recovered from that blow and made good saves in the second act, until Havertz also headed in (86) a new measured cross from White, to bring Arsenal closer to their most cherished dream.

“Tomorrow will be a great day to watch a fantastic football match. It is not in my hands,” Arteta explained. “It is a joy to be part of this league, and a joy to be part of something special that we are trying to achieve,” added the Basque coach.

What’s next for Arsenal?

The next challenge for the ‘Gunners’ will be the home game against Porto, next Tuesday, in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16, a series that they will have to overcome, as they arrive with a 1-0 loss.

In 15th place, with 26 points, Brentford have only achieved one point from the last 15 in play, although they have faced major rivals such as Liverpool, City, West Ham and Chelsea before the visit to the Emirates.

Liverpool vs. Manchester City, a definitive duel for the Premier League

Liverpool and Manchester City, the two heavyweights of English football in recent years, are preparing for an exciting battle on Sunday, on matchday 28 of the Premier League, with the lead also at stake.

Just one point separates both teams in the English standings. It is Liverpool who are ahead, so a victory would allow them to open a gap in the table, while City would need victory at Anfield to put themselves in first place.

The rivalry and tension is evident, which adds even more ingredients to a very spicy dish.

The defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, born in Liverpool and one of the emblematic players of Jürgen Klopp’s team, had lit the fuse at the beginning of the week, associating City’s successes with the great financial resources at its disposal due to being controlled from 2008 by a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family.

“It’s hard. We are facing a machine built to win. “That’s the simplest way to describe City and its organization,” Alexander-Arnold told FourFourTwo magazine, alluding to the financial structure of the Emirati owners of the Citizens.

City’s main star, Norwegian attacker Erling Haaland, responded.

“I have been here for a year and I have won the treble [títulos en Liga de Campeones, Premier League y Copa de Inglaterra en la temporada 2022-2023]it was a nice feeling,” the Nordic striker told Sky Sports on Thursday.

“I don’t think he knows that feeling, which I did feel last season,” he noted, in direct reference to Alexander-Arnold.
