Producer Jeanette Fels Talks About the Making of Romantic Comedy “Almost Bachelor”

“The path we took gave us creative freedom, but also an equal amount of difficulty,” says Jeanette Fels, producer of the romantic comedy “Almost Bachelor,” who not only tested her resilience during the making of the film, but passed the test.

Not even a month has passed since “Almost a Bachelor” came to the big screens to delight Latvian cinema gourmands. What’s next? Whether the film will have a second part or whether the team will make a next film, time will tell, but the path of cinema has been paved. In addition, bright enough.

How did you become a producer? for work?

Time was destined. My background is in multimedia production. Video, cinema things have always been close and very fascinating. I had worked in this industry more, filming and editing. Thanks to cool people, I also had the opportunity to try out the role of producer in some projects.

This opportunity created new opportunities, and now I can be happy about the first feature film in this position. Thanks to our cool cameraman Krišjānis Pleiko and the talented screenwriter, director Rihardas Romuš for the opportunity and excellent cooperation.

Many people want to take the film to the big screen, but it is everyone succeeds… You did it! What was the most challenging part of the filming process?

Yes, that’s true. A lot can get in the way, a lot can go wrong. The main thing is not to panic and not throw the plinth into the bushes. We had set ourselves a specific period of time in which we want to finish shooting the film. Although it was complicated, everything worked out and everything was on time.

The team had to hone in on each other, the actors had to make friends with their characters, get into the same rhythm. After the first filming, everything started to work, according to Jānis Jarān – exactly as according to the previously set schedule.

Or, did you learn anything new about yourself while working on the film?

If I wasn’t sure before, now I know that I really love the role of a producer. I learned a lot, experienced a lot, it was an invaluable experience throughout the year. If there is such an opportunity, I plan to do it in the future, because I feel that it is my place.

How much does a producer have in general?fromcarry on your shoulders?

You should always keep your hand on the pulse of the project, know everything from AZ about the processes of making the film, make sure of the technical side of filming, team spirit. Where, what, when, why, how much?

In our situation, sometimes the duties of the producer overlapped with the duties of art, make-up, hairdresser, props and others.

I’m not complaining about that at all. This made it possible to thoroughly test and make sure of one’s stress resistance.

Forum Cinemas, on February 13, you experienced dwhen the film was released in the wide world. You gave a speech on stage. Do you remember the moment before? The excitement was?

The premiere was a great dot on the “i” for the team’s adventure together. A moment when we could all sit back, take a breath, pat each other and ourselves on the back.

I didn’t worry much about the speech, the main thing was to thank the audience, the great team and the director from the bottom of my heart for the wild work and what we experienced together.

It’s only been a few weeks, but the film managed to travel around Latvia, and the creative team went along to present the film. Forum Cinemas the building outside is still cheering with your movie poster. Pwith the film, the press writes, and you have also managed to get into the pages of a magazine. Can you believe that all this is happening to you too?

Yes, this one really warms the heart. Incited a new wave to be proud of the team. It’s just as cool to read audience reviews, because the movie is just for you. Every good word makes you smile again and again.

What did you learn during the film?

Plan as much as you want, but not everything goes as planned. All with a cool mind and patience.

What was it like to work in a team?

Very good. Although the team is young, it is also experienced in terms of experience – this was the first full-length film for all of them, everyone acted professionally and with the best of conscience.

What was the hardest thing about creating a film from scratch? I know it was created with practically no budget. The director did not hide this from me in the interview.

Yes, when you asked about the patch challenge before, I didn’t want to say right off the bat that it was a lack of funds, but yes, that’s exactly what it was. We didn’t get help in terms of money, but we decided to rely on ourselves, take a risk and do it anyway.

Making a film without funding is a difficult process. This makes even basic, self-evident things necessary for a successful filming process difficult. However, it gave an additional opportunity to prove to myself and others that something great can be made from nothing.

And what was the easiest?

To be on the set when all the preparations are done and it remains to implement the filming plan.

Is it easy to create cinema in Latvia? What about the competition?

Depending on the situation and the project. There are different ways to do this. The path we chose gave us creative freedom, but just as many difficulties along the way.

Personally, I don’t like to look at colleagues in the industry as competitors, I wish everyone success, and I’m happy when a new, good craftsman comes out.

What is your favorite movie genre?

Photo from personal album

I like fantasy and mystery movies the most. The feeling of stepping into a parallel reality, where the same laws that govern our everyday life, mystery, mystery… However, I also watch comedies and horror films. I’m happy if I can get scared or laugh. Documentary cinema is also very close.

Why do you love cinema?

Cinema is like magic. An audiovisual story can be conjured up where the viewer can disappear for a certain period of time and enjoy the character, life, joys, sorrows, adventures and experiences on the screen.

The fact that a film can make a person get excited for a moment, forgetting their everyday life and stepping into the shoes of the film’s characters.

It is said that good cinema is when there is a grave silence after watching the film. A brief moment to think and recover. About what Almost a bachelor makes you think?

I think the movie makes you think about the choices we make on a daily basis and realize that everything you do has consequences. It also makes us appreciate what we have. I really liked one of the reviews, where the viewer commented on the film: “I felt like I was looking out the window at the vicissitudes of my neighbors with great interest.” The film is entertaining, light, thought provoking and leaves a very positive aftertaste.

I believe you know every second of the movie. Which episode is your favorite?

That is true! I really like the scene where the main character of the film, Marek, has a hearty argument with the sly Tina in the car, and there is a twist. Of course, the final scene as well. I’m saying this in a very abstract way, so as not to tell those who haven’t seen the film yet.

What future plans? Is the top already coming?ama movie?

Yes, we are already making plans for the future, but we must keep quiet about the details for now.

And finally tfor those who may not have had time to watch the film yet, tell why is it worth seeing?

Because we all need more joy, relaxation, humor and laughter in our everyday life. In addition, it is worth seeing the young talents in action, who, together with more experienced actors, allow you to immerse yourself in the story about well-known and current topics, going through various, sometimes even absurd, turns of events. Happy viewing!
