The Chilean president, Gabriel Boric, received this Friday at the La Moneda Palace his counterpart from the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, to reinforce their strategic alliance and commemorate International Women’s Day, within the framework of the official visit of the European ruler. to the southern country.

Boric commented in a joint statement to the press about the signing of agreements on just ecological transition, support for technological development and innovation, Antarctic cooperation and democratic memory.

The Chilean president valued that both countries “have long maintained an active and important bilateral relationship.”

He stated that Spain is among the 10 countries with which Chile has the greatest commercial exchange, in addition to being the second largest investor of the European Union in the South American country.

One of the agreements signed between Sánchez and Boric represents the renewal and updating of the bilateral strategic alliance signed in 2013.

The goal now is to add issues of concern related to the climate crisis, sustainability, gender equality and “feminist diplomacy.”

Sánchez highlighted, for his part, the “productive” and “ambitious” nature of his official agenda in Chile, along with highlighting the importance of the relationship with the South American country.

“For Spain, Chile is a strategic partner in Latin America, a friend with whom we maintain an intense bilateral relationship,” he said in his speech to the media present at the headquarters of the Chilean Government.

Both presidents placed emphasis on deepening the economic relationship, for which they led meetings with businessmen and investors from both countries.

In a private meeting, topics of global interest such as organized crime, cybersecurity, human rights and the conflicts taking place in Gaza and Ukraine were also addressed.

On the occasion of the commemoration of International Women’s Day, the leaders committed to carry out the necessary actions to comply with the Sustainable Development Goals incorporated in the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations (UN), related to gender equality. gender and female empowerment.
