It can be revealed that Boris Johnson secretly flew to Venezuela last month for unofficial talks with its autocratic leader, Nicolás Maduro.

The former prime minister took a private jet from a family vacation in the Caribbean island of the Dominican Republic to a location outside Caracas, where he spent less than 24 hours.
Johnson spoke to Maduro about the war in Ukraine amid concern in Western diplomatic and intelligence circles that the oil-rich socialist republic could supply weapons or other military support to Russia, a close ally. Since he left Downing Street he has defended President Volodymir Zelensky on the world stage.
He also discussed the conditions for normalizing relations with the United Kingdom, which does not accept the legitimacy of the Maduro administration.
