The current champion of the Major Basketball League (LMB), Metapán, will seek to defend the title, but along the way they will meet Brujos de Izalco, Fantasmas de San Vicente, San Salvador BC, Santa Ana BC, ITD Santa Tecla, Cojute BC , Santiagueño and the debuting quintets, Salvadoreños and AB Lobos.
For Salvadorans this will be the first time they will compete in the LMB, but they will have the experience of players of the caliber of the national teams Brayan García and Emanuel Rodríguez. The strategy and game model will be in charge of the Cuban-American coach and national team coach, Sergio Rouco. The home of Salvadorans will be the Inclusive Sports City (CDI).
The A. Lobos BKB team will be based at Court 20-30, in Chalchuapa, and will have the experience of Marlon Viana, who was coach of Once Lobos. This squad will also have the services of foreign players Alexander B. Brown and David Daniel Vásquez, who will make their debut in the competition.
The first round of the tournament will take place over five weeks of competition, which will be completed on Wednesday, April 10. After that there will be a final four to define the Cup Champion, which will take place between Friday, April 12 and Sunday, April 14. The second round of Apertura 2024, which will last four weeks, will conclude on Saturday, May 11.
The playoffs, which will be played in the best of five games, will take place between the week of May 14 and 23 and after them, the semifinals are scheduled between May 24 and June 2, while the finals will take place between June 4 and 11.
The current monarchs of the LMB Clausura 2023 Tournament, Metapán, were crowned at the Salvador Mariona Stadium by beating Brujos de Izalco 74-73 in the fourth game, leaving the series 3-1.
The Salvadoran Basketball Federation (Fesabal) has organized 16 tournaments over 10 years. The first was the Apertura 2015. The team that has won the most championships has been Santa Tecla BC, with four titles, followed by San Salvador BC and Brujos de Izalco, with three each.
The exciting duels of the LMB will begin with the lightning tournament, scheduled for Sunday, March 10 at 2:30 pm, at the Abel Mazariego Sports Center in Metapán, while on Tuesday, March 12, the Calero team will host Brujos de Izalco at 7:15 pm at the start of the regular season.
