Liverpool –
Juergen Klopp will leave Liverpool end of this season. He also advised the club and its potential successors to trust each other.
Klopp will say goodbye to Liverpool at the end of this season, marking the end of a journey since 2015. He left two years before his contract period because he needed to recharge his energy.
It is believed that the search for a new manager has already been carried out by the Merseyside club. The two most prominent names are Xabi Alonso (Bayer Leverkusen) and Roberto de Zerbi (Brighton & Hove Albion).
Alonso is the most coveted candidate among Liverpool because of his history as a former player at Anfield. He is considered to understand the club and his good relationship with the supporters will help his future performance.
But there are also concerns that coaching Liverpool is still too fast for Alonso. He only started coaching in 2019 and practically Leverkusen was his first main team — Alonso coached Real Sociedad B at the start of his career.
The scale is different from Leverkusen, and this also applies to De Zerbi. Looking at the candidates so far, who have relatively little experience coaching big top players, there is an opinion that it is impossible to follow in Klopp’s footsteps.
The position of manager at Liverpool also looks scary with that kind of assumption. But Klopp believes there will be many managers interested if they know how the Liverpool club works.
“It’s impossible to follow in my footsteps? No, that’s not true. I understand that 100%, but everyone involved in this club thinks and understands this club differently. The people here are different,” he was quoted as saying Liverpool Echo.
“What an impressive journey. But I am 100% sure that, what they have learned over these years is, if we believe and try, then anything is possible. This team will attract top class managers, 100%.”
“The next manager may play different football, or not. But he will get a boost from this supporter base. It feels like I’ve come in at the right moment because the club has lost its way a bit and maybe I’m the one who helps everyone understand again how important trust and support is. “
“This club is special. Not because of the buildings, other clubs have good stadiums. But because of the people. It’s about the people. I really think this is the perfect moment for the new manager and not the wrong moment because we didn’t Winning it all, we leave room for growth,” he added.
