House Health Committee Approves Sixth Amendment Grant Agreement between Egypt and US for Health Improvements

Approved House Health Committee Chaired by Dr. Ashraf Hatem Ali, the sixth amendment to the aid grant agreement between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America, regarding improving health outcomes for target groups, which aims to add an amount of fifteen million US dollars to the project.

According to the agreement, family planning and reproductive health programs receive the attention of the state in implementation of Article (41) of the Constitution, which stipulates that the state is committed to implementing a population program aimed at achieving a balance between population growth rates and available resources, maximizing investment in human energy, and improving its characteristics. Within the framework of achieving sustainable development, and based on the Egyptian government’s keenness to advance the family system and reproductive health.

The agreement indicated that the National Population Strategy 2015/2030 approved the assistance grant agreement between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America regarding improving health outcomes for the target group, signed in Cairo on 9/26/2017, which was approved by the Council at its session held in 7/2018. /3, which aims to support Egypt’s current family planning and reproductive health program, to make it more effective and sustainable, by improving the quality of family planning services and supported reproductive health, as well as the activity of supporting the family planning program in Egypt, to make it more efficient and sustainable as well, and activity The Demographic and Health Survey in Egypt 2018, which will collect, analyze and publish high-quality data on health and population, representing current conditions compared to global conditions.

She indicated that, out of the political leadership’s keenness to improve the health system in Egypt, it negotiated an increase in the amount of the first batch of the grant from 6 million dollars to 11 million and 36 thousand US dollars, that is, an increase of 5 million and 36 thousand US dollars in accordance with the first amendment to the aforementioned agreement. It was issued on 7/24/2018, which was approved by the Council at its session held on 1/15/2019.

She continued: “In continuation of the efforts made to improve the health system, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, signed the Sixth Amendment Grant Assistance Agreement between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America, regarding improving health outcomes for target groups, which aims to add an amount of 51 million US dollars, the amount is a grant. Assistance brings the total amount of the American side’s contribution to the project to 77,186 million dollars, with the aim of focusing on activities in the field of health and population to strengthen the current family planning and reproductive health program to make it more effective and sustainable.
