Duvel Hackers Demand More Than Half a Million Dollars in Ransom, Threaten Data Leak

The hacker(s) who shut down the network of the Duvel-Moortgat brewery and who are now threatening to throw the company’s data out on the street demanded more than half a million dollars in ransom. Our editors heard this. The final amount does depend on negotiations, it sounds.

LOOK. Duvel hackers demanded more than half a million dollars, they said in a chat with VTM NEWS journalist Kenneth Dée:

The exact amount that the hackers are asking for has been the subject of discussion for several days, but now they themselves provide insight into what exactly they are demanding: “I cannot mention the exact amount, because that depends on the negotiations of our subcontractor,” it sounds. “And negotiations are tailored to the exact damage caused to the victim by the attack. But the amount we demanded at the start is higher than 500,000 dollars (456,000 euros, ed).”

Yesterday, ‘Stormous’ announced that it plans to leak stolen data earlier than first announced. It wants to make part of the data public or sell it early next week to put pressure on Duvel-Moortgat. This indicates that the hackers are frustrated because the brewer does not want to cooperate. “We work from Lithuania and Russia,” it now sounds. “And everyone who works with us is in other regions.”

We also asked whether Stormous – or one of their subcontractors – is behind the cyber attack at coffee roaster Beyers Koffie, which is located not far from the Duvel brewery in Puurs. But the group does not want to answer that: “I cannot say anything about other victims. There are many requests from our subcontractors to place their victims on our website. But depending on the amount of work, we do not make victims public ourselves when they negotiate with us. And they sometimes ask not to be made public before they have completed negotiations with us.”
