Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Ministry of Communications (Ministry of Transportation) gave a strong warning to the airline Water Batik tail pilot and the co-pilot slept 28 minutes while the plane was in flight.
Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation, M. Kristi Endah Murni, said that airlines need to pay attention to the time and quality of rest for pilots and other flight crew, which affects alertness in flight.
“The Ministry of Transportation has issued a strong warning to Batik Air and will carry out a special investigation regarding this case,” said an official statement, Saturday (9/3).
Furthermore, Kristi said that she would conduct an investigation and review of night flight operations in Indonesia, related to Fatigue Risk Management (fatigue risk management) for Batik Air and also all flight operators.
The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) released a ‘serious’ problem that occurred when one of the Batik Air planes flew in the air towards Jakarta.
This is related to the two pilots on flight ID6723 ‘accidentally’ falling asleep for 28 minutes, causing a series of navigation errors.
The incident occurred on January 25 on a flight from Kendari in Sulawesi to Jakarta using an Airbus A32 aircraft with hull number BTK6723.
The flight has a block time of 2 hours 35 minutes until it reaches its destination, according to Batik Air Indonesia’s schedule.
The NTSC urged Batik Air Indonesia to “develop detailed procedures for conducting cockpit inspections to ensure that cockpit inspections can be carried out properly.”
