Country Singer Bruno Rodéo Releases New Album “Fun is Chasing Me” after Quitting Construction Job

“I have children and a house, but no pension funds or guaranteed salary; I’m going to live from my music and die with my guitar”, fully assumes the country singer Bruno Rodéo, who presents his new album, Fun is chasing me.

Who has never had the fantasy of abandoning their paying job with secure conditions to try to make a career with their hobby? The Saguenéen Bruno Rodéo did it. Worker in the construction field for 20 years and owner of his company for a decade, but far from being in love with his career, professional burnout finally convinced him to take the plunge and invest full time in music.

“I told myself, I’m going to work pretty hard [dans la construction] to retire early and set up a studio at home. Finally I decided to stop putting this life off,” says the 44-year-old country singer, who already had three albums under his belt when he changed careers. “I was really just doing it for fun, but since I already had albums, I couldn’t be considered an emerging artist; it was even less obvious,” he notes, in an interview with The newspaperwhile comparing his journey to “a trail which must be cleared.”

Since making this decision, just before the pandemic, Bruno Rodéo has not looked back. Supported by Marc Déry, as well as his friends from Quebec Redneck Blugrass Project and Sara Dufour, he presented, on March 8, his sixth project, entitled Fun is chasing me.

A festive, but honest album

“I wanted my album to be as festive as possible, but it’s not true that it’s always good; It’s good to have songs that come to you in the gut too,” says Bruno Rodéo, about the creative process of his most recent opus.

Track The sun shines for everyonewhich addresses the subject of depression in men in a tune similar to the ballads of Beau Dommage, plays this role of “song that comes to get you by the guts” to perfection.

Behind his catchy melodies, as on the album’s title song, and his pronounced Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean accent, the father weighs each of his words and wants to convey messages. He did this in particular on A mare is worth a horse, a song with a feminist theme that he performs with the popular Sara Dufour. Both with the lyrics and with the video clip, produced by ZigZag Sport, Bruno Rodéo speaks out on gender equality with his usual country colors.

«On [Sara et moi] comes from the same region, and with her music, she undoes the image of the perfect and feminine little girl, it was perfect. In addition, she agreed to warm up the truck for the music video, even with her busy schedule!” he rejoices.

Fun is chasing me, by Bruno Rodéo, has been available since March 8. Launch shows will take place at the Chicoutimi Musical Experimentation Center, as well as at the Quai des Brumes in Montreal, on May 4 and June 6.
