During this event, held on Tuesday, March 5, 15 states voted simultaneously to nominate the presidential candidate who will represent the Republicans during the 2024 elections.
The results indicated that Trump won in 14 of the 15 states, these being Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Maine, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Iowa.
For her part, the Republican official only won in Vermont. This single victory during Super Tuesday adds to the one she received in Washington DC in previous weeks, accumulating only two states in her favor.
Haley’s withdrawal was not immediate, and after the results, her campaign spokesperson, Olivia Pérez-Cubas, assured that the official was grateful for those who voted for her, and that she was proud to have been the first woman to receive victory in two Republican states.
“Today, in state after state, there remains a large bloc of Republican primary voters who are expressing deep concerns about Donald Trump. “That is not the unity our party needs to be successful,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
However, this Wednesday Haley made a speech in Charleston, in which she announced her retirement from the race.
The former South Carolina governor did not endorse Trump after withdrawing her campaign, as other candidates have done in the past.
“Now it is up to Donald Trump to win the votes of those inside and outside our party who did not support him. And I hope he does,” said the official.
“At its best, politics is about attracting people to your cause, not rejecting them. And our conservative cause urgently needs more people,” he added.
Trump currently has 995 delegates of the 1,215 he needs to obtain the Republican Party nomination at the next national convention that is scheduled in Milwaukee for July 15, so a rematch between Trump and President Joe Biden seems likely. imminent.
