TERNA ENERGY and the Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Thessaloniki (EYATH) are paving the way for the conclusion of a long-term supply agreement (PPA) for electricity from Renewable Energy Sources in the public sector.
The two companies signed today, March 7, the 12-year PPA by which EYATH will procure green and cheaper electricity from a wind farm that is in operation and from a photovoltaic park of TERNA ENERGY that is being developed. The two power systems of 30 MW and 20 MW, respectively, are in Thebes of Boeotia in the “Taratsa” area.
Benefits
According to the management of EYATH, during the press conference, a competition was held for the selection of an electricity producer.
The tender process was based on a 2022 law, the provisions of which the water supply company in Thessaloniki was quick to take advantage of.
TERNA ENERGY was selected from the tender, which will provide green electricity through a virtual PPA for 8 + 4 years.
“EYATH annually consumes 110 GWh of electricity and with the contract with TERNA ENERGY, it will immediately cover the needs for 75 GWh”, according to the managing director of EYATH, Mr. Anthimos Amanatidis. These quantities will come from TERNA ENERGY’s wind farm, while in two years the photovoltaic plant will also operate, which will provide another 25 GWh.
In this way, EYATH will fully cover its energy needs and according to Mr. Amanatidis, the benefit will immediately be 2.4 million euros and after the operation of the photovoltaic plant, the annual cost savings will amount to 3.4 million euros . The energy footprint reduction is 87%.
The average electricity supply price through the PPA is 76.6 euros/MWh.
