They denounce partial collapse of the iconic Riviera Hotel – 2024-03-08 20:19:22

The deterioration that comes over the years on the Island has always been a problem for citizens, as it brings with it partial or total collapses in many of the buildings in the capital. Generally, this problem only affects ordinary Cubans, but it seems that not even hotels are safe.

According to complaints made on social networks, the trampoline of the iconic Riviera Hotel, in Havana, suffered one of these partial collapses, while supposed maintenance tasks were being carried out on the emblematic property.

The alleged collapse was shared by Internet user José Carlos Leyva Domini, who also shared photographs of the hotel, which is currently closed to the public.

These photographs were taken from a neighboring hotel, and show the pieces of the diving board that ended up inside the pool. However, the images do not show workers or machinery nearby, suggesting that the collapse was not related to these maintenance tasks.

The Riviera Hotel belongs to the Gran Caribe group, and is managed by the Spanish chain Iberostar. This establishment closed its doors years ago, with the excuse of receiving a thorough restoration to return it to its old splendor.

Until now, it is unknown how long these maintenance works will last, nor the progress they have made, but if the collapse of the trampoline is a sign of anything, it is that the building may be in worse condition than previously thought.

This hotel became one of the symbols of elegance and prosperity of Havana in the 1950s, becoming one of the most emblematic buildings in the capital. As a result, the current state of the facilities has generated controversy among Internet users inside and outside the Island.

“An entire country is collapsing, not just the Riviera springboard… It is very sad, and we are going for more”; “How sad, I was spending the holidays with my family. Year after year of my salary and that of my wife in the late 70s and 80s. We are losing everything” and “Another achievement of the ‘Robolution’, the same one that began by stealing businesses, bank accounts and freedom”, some of these people said.

Others criticized the Cuban government, pointing out that it is dedicated to building more and more luxury hotels, while buildings on the Island are falling apart.

“I don’t understand the super spending on construction of new hotels, while the existing ones are falling apart”; “They dedicate resources to building horrible hotels and that one, which was a jewel of Havana architecture, they are letting it fall to pieces” and “Brother, but that was not under repair?! “It’s very sad!” wrote other Internet users.
