The Government of Colombia reported this Thursday that 77 pre-Hispanic pieces arrived in Bogotá last Sunday aboard the presidential plane, within the framework of a repatriation plan and recovery of the country’s social memory.
The pieces had been in the hands of private collectors since the 1970s in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, and had been received at the headquarters of the Colombian Consulate in Frankfurt in August 2023.
«Today we can talk about decolonization because it is not only about a memory, it is also about new narratives about how museums protect the pieces, new narratives to recognize which were pieces for use and others were for the adoration of some idols, the sun or water,” said Catalina Ceballos Carriazo, director of Cultural Affairs of the Colombian Foreign Ministry.
