IOC President Condemns Russia’s Violation of Olympic Charter: A Recap

According to the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, Russia has grossly violated the Olympic Charter.

The International Olympic Committee responded to the constant verbal provocations of Foreign Minister Lavrov and other Russian officials. And even IOC President Thomas Bach, who was not unreasonably accused of lobbying the interests of Moscow and “pushing” the athletes of the aggressor country to the Olympics, this time expressed his indignation to the Russian authorities, reports The Gurdian.

It is worth noting that earlier Sergei Lavrov accused the IOC of “betraying the ideals of Olympism” and said many other provocative things about the organization.

In response, President Bach recalled both the doping scandal and the war in Ukraine, accusing the Russian authorities of violating the Olympic Charter.

“We are seeing increasingly aggressive statements by the Russian government and officials of this country. It is noteworthy that this aggression comes precisely from the same government that was behind the scandalous manipulation of the anti-doping system before, during and after the Winter Games in Sochi“, he emphasized.

After this, Bach recalled that the military actions that Moscow unleashed against Ukraine forced the introduction of new sanctions against Russia and the imposition of even stricter embargoes by the IOC. He also focused on the fact that the Russian Olympic Committee also “squeezed out” all property on Ukrainian territory and created new illegal “Olympic committees” on the occupied Ukrainian lands.

The Russian leadership is ignoring the fact that it was they who forced us to act this way, and this happened because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and annexation of parts of its territory. They even obliged the Russian Olympic Committee to also annex the parts under the jurisdiction of the NOC of Ukraine. This is the reason for this: a gross violation of the Olympic Charter led us to our actions“, added the IOC President.

Let us remind you that in the Russian gymnastics team “boiled” because of the decision on the Olympics: “We were brought to our knees!”

It is known that in 2022 After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Russian and Belarusian sports received sanctions and found themselves in international isolation.

At the same time, there were also organizations that allowed Russians and Belarusians will compete under a neutral flag.

Meanwhile, Russian and Belarusian tennis players were allowed to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in a “neutral status.”
