MEB and NVWA Launch ‘Know What You’re Taking’ Campaign to Highlight Risks of Mixing Herbal Products and Medicines

The ‘Know what you’re taking’ campaign runs until the end of March 2024

The Medicines Evaluation Board (MEB) will start a campaign on March 11, 2024 about the possible interaction between herbal products and medicines. The campaign, a collaboration between the MEB and the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA), draws patients’ attention to the possible risks of this. Pharmacists can use campaign materials from the MEB to draw attention to this.

There are people who, in addition to their medicines, also take herbal supplements, herbal medicines or homeopathic medicines. Patients do not always realize that combining medicines and herbal products can sometimes lead to interactions. In the ‘Know what you are taking’ campaign, the MEB and the NVWA therefore want to make patients more aware of the possible risks of combining medicines with these herbal remedies.

Pharmacists can support the campaign by displaying campaign materials in the pharmacy, such as videos for the waiting room screen or posters. They can order or download the materials free of charge via the MEB. The ‘Know what you’re taking’ campaign runs until the end of March 2024.
