Three musicians are nominated in the “Great Interpretation” category of the “Great Music Awards 2023”: cellist Kristaps Bergsinger Inna Kločko subject to sleep Ilze Kliava.
The speeches and conversations of this program mainly revolve around the question, what does interpretation mean? However, these are not efforts to define, but to actualize this size and, through the exchange of ideas, perhaps discover something new and open a wider view of how we ourselves think, perceive and hear music. Swiss musicologist Jorgs Stencl (Jürg Stenzl) has tried to explain the history and meaning of interpretation in the 19th and 20th centuries. He immediately begins his research with a bold heading: “THE PROBLEM”. So what makes interpreting and talking about it so…problematic? What does interpretation even mean? How much does it have to do with analysis and ultimately… employing the musician’s mind? And does it make little sense to think about it?
The musicians share their experiences and views on interpretation, supplementing these thoughts with stories about the opus they brilliantly interpreted in 2023.
