In the wake of the greater or lesser crisis caused by same-sex marriage the government is facing, and in this sense it has a “headache” in view of the European elections.
With the decision of the Holy Synod to celebrate the Sunday of Orthodoxy in conditions of monastic austerity, in the Petraki Monastery and not in the Metropolis, a message of disapproval to the state and political leadership, a new condition is formed from the facts.
Those who visit regularly Churches in recent weeks, they have already found that the sermons against the government’s decision and, in many cases, against the local MPs who voted for the bill, are persistent and strongly critical.
In this way, it is clear that the government-Church relationship has entered a new phase, which could be described as critical. Apparently, Megaros Maximos already recognizes that a new type of management is needed and, in any case, a way is being sought so that things don’t get dragged out.
The issue is expected to be of personal concern to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who until now had an open channel of communication with Archbishop Hieronymos.
It remains to be seen if there is scope for a timely de-escalation of this dreaded crisis, while the interest and attention of the government is also directed to the anniversary events of March 25, with the memories referring to protests and deviations from other times, in the first years of the memorial adventure.
