The underground restaurant of Mei Ho House Youth Hostel in Sham Shui Po has changed hands many times over the years. From the past Breathing Ice Room, Forty-one Ice Room, to the Mei Ho Ice Room across the street, in order to match the original history, the original location has been renovated. With the theme of Hong Kong nostalgia, including Cafe “Garden at Mei Ho” which opened at the previous location in 2022, the interior also focuses on Hong Kong-style feelings, and the outdoor theme is light camping, attracting many diners to come here to check in. Unfortunately, Cafe announced earlier that it will close its doors and March 31st will be its last day of business.

Cafe posted a message on its social platform page, saying, “Looking back on the past two years, there are many things we have not done well. Thank you for your understanding and support in pushing our progress along the way.”
During the opening of the restaurant, in addition to daily operations, it also contributed to pet-friendliness. The shop owner said, “Since Mei Ho Building banned dogs from entering, I have worked step by step to make it a truly pet-friendly place. It was a lot of struggle during the process, and I see so many furry faces every day. “I’m so happy.” Therefore, I hope that the restaurant can continue to support pet-friendliness and thus keep Mei Ho House alive.

Cafe launches new menus from time to time, featuring dishes from all over the world, including Southeast Asian delicacies such as Thailand, Singapore, Japan, etc. The latest ones include mushroom pesto spaghetti, Mexican-style roasted corn, chicken cartilage dumplings, and fresh shrimp hand-made shrimp burgers etc. Desserts also have local characteristics, including pandan cake with coconut ice cream, glutinous rice waffles, etc. The most unusual thing is that the restaurant also provides delicacies for furry children, such as the beautiful and exquisite dog Dacquoise.

As soon as the news of the closure came out, diners who had long-term supporters said, “It’s such a pity to lose such a good pet-friendly restaurant,” and “It’s rare to have a pet-friendly restaurant, and we have to say goodbye so soon.” They also praised the cafe’s careful decoration every holiday. And he doesn’t mind that the dogs and furry kids “walk all over the place”, and there is no time limit, so he frankly hopes to reopen one day. Remember to seize the opportunity!
