The Russian Federal Security Service (FSS) has prevented the preparation of a terrorist act in an administrative building in Karelia, TASS reported.
A Belarusian citizen, who was preparing a terrorist act on the instructions of the Ukrainian special services, was neutralized during an attempt to detain him, according to a statement from the public relations center of the Federal Service.
“FSS on the territory of the Republic of Karelia prevented the preparation of a terrorist act planned by the special services of Ukraine with the participation of a recruited citizen of the Republic of Belarus, born in 1974, who was a member of the banned in Belarus nationalist formation “Kastus Kalinovsky Regiment” and was on the interstate wanted list,” the center reported.
“Acting on the instructions of his superiors”, he took weapons and an improvised explosive device “from a previously prepared cache, with the aim of blowing up one of the administrative buildings of the city of Olonets”.
During his arrest, the perpetrator got into a shootout with the officers of the special services and was neutralized, adds the FSS.
The FSS says the explosive device was made with plastic explosives made in Great Britain and had a detonator made in the United States, Reuters reported, citing a report by Russia’s RIA news agency.
According to Russian media, the Belarusian citizen is Nikolay Alekseev, a 49-year-old activist who participated in Belarusian opposition protests in 2020.
