Honduran National Congress Approves Budget Expansion for UNAG and Credit Agreements

Tegucigalpa, Honduras.- The different groups represented in the National Congress, this Wednesday night, approved the expansion of the budget for the National University of Agriculture (UNAG), loans and credit agreements.

In a session that began three and a half hours late, they approved the second opinion of the night, which includes a loan with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), for an amount of 56 million 100 thousand dollars.

The previous amount will be allocated to the project to reform the water and sanitation services of the Central District II.

The session closed at the stroke of midnight.

Next, the third opinion approved with 75 votes was a credit agreement for 89 million 210 Special Drawing Rights (SDR), equivalent to 117 million 510 thousand dollars.

The SDRs are acquired with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Central Bank of Honduras.

In addition, the National Congress approved the loan contract between the Honduran government and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), for an amount of 13,390 million Japanese yen.

The funds will be allocated to the “Program to improve transparency and integrity for sustainable development.” The same with which they intend to increase accountability.

UNAG

On the other hand, the Legislative Branch approved the expansion of the budget for the 2024 fiscal year of the UNAG.

The increase occurred within the General Budget of Expenditures and Income of the Republic. The increase being 87 million 332 thousand 303 lempiras, becoming the budget of 137 million 332 thousand 303 lempiras.

In that sense, the opinion establishes that the increase is due to the fact that they have a salary debt that dates back several years. As well as, to improve the quality of education.

UNAG has a salary debt with its employees.
