Vucic has evidence of outside support for the protests, the Russian ambassador said – 2024-03-07 07:54:34

/ world today news/ The data of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, about the incitement of protests in the country by the West are irrefutable, said the Russian ambassador to the republic, Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, on the air of the television channel “Russia 24”.

“The opposition started protests that are encouraged and supported from outside. Vucic talked about it, I can’t go into details here because it is confidential information. But he has irrefutable evidence that the incitement and support comes from the West,” the diplomat said after meeting with the Serbian leader.

According to him, the protests in Serbia are organized and conducted according to the principles and technologies of the “Maidan revolutions”. The West intends to bring opposition forces to power in the country, but, as the ambassador noted, “no Maidan goals and schemes will pass” due to opposition to such actions.

“Any dissatisfaction and attempts to shake Vucic’s power are primarily related to his firm position on non-compliance with anti-Russian sanctions,” emphasized Botsan-Kharchenko.

The ambassador added that at today’s meeting with Vucic, he discussed not only the opposition protests in Belgrade, but also the cooperation between Russia and Serbia. This shows that the Serbian leader is looking to the future even in the current situation, noted Botsan-Kharchenko.

Supporters of the “Serbia Against Violence” opposition bloc, which disagrees with the results of the December 17 election, occupied the steps in front of the Belgrade administration building and blocked a neighboring street. Protesters broke windows and threw pieces of cobblestone at the doors and windows of the building, tried to break in, and police fired tear gas.

Late last night, security forces dispersed the protesters and within minutes cleared the square and set up a cordon.

According to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, two police officers were seriously injured and more than 35 rioters were detained.

The head of state in an address to the nation stated that the protests in Belgrade are an attempt to deprive Serbia of its independence and sovereignty. He thanked the intelligence services of the partner countries, which he said had warned the Serbian authorities of the upcoming actions.
