Answers are also required from the Judiciary” emphasized Sokratis Famellos about the e-mails of Anna Michel Asimakopoulou, after the meeting that SYRIZA MPs had with the president of the Personal Data Protection Authority.
The use of personal data by the MEP “creates very serious concerns for the security of personal data and its use, as well as for the reliability and management of the databases by the Ministry of the Interior and in general by the State”, emphasized the president of the Parliamentary Group of SYRIZA.
It is recalled that a criminal investigation related to the case was ordered by the Prosecutor’s Office. As part of the preliminary examination, the offenses of breaching the legislation on personal data and breach of official confidentiality will be investigated. The Personal Data Protection Authority is also conducting an investigation.
Famellos’ statement in detail:
“We requested as SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance to meet today with the President of the Personal Data Protection Authority, because we had complaints in our party as well, as well as many publications, regarding the use of personal data by the MEP and MEP candidate of the ND, Ms. Asimakopoulou, which creates very serious concerns for the security of personal data and for their use, as well as for the reliability and management of databases by the Ministry of the Interior and in general by the State.
The President of the Authority, Mr. Konstantinos Menudakos, informed us, as we knew from yesterday’s Press Release, that an ex officio investigation has been launched by the Authority.
We expressed our belief that we have before us a serious political problem, which is connected to the issues of the Rule of Law, constitutional provisions and even to the issues of conducting European elections and postal voting.
We have asked the Authority, which we absolutely respect as an institution, to speed up the investigation and provide answers.
At the same time, we ask for answers from the political leadership, because political responsibility for such a serious problem has not yet been assumed.
- Is there reliability in the databases?
- Who has access to personal data?
- Who managed them and
- Why were these exploited for vote-seeking purposes?
We believe that the Court must give corresponding answers. Because citizens must have a high sense of Right for our society.
Our democracy must be strengthened and not the constitutional provisions, the institutional provisions be discredited and we have serious problems in our country’s Rule of Law.
Answers are needed at the political level.
