Carlo Ancelotti stumbled upon the problem of tax evasion in Spain. Coach Real Madrid He was also sentenced to 4 years and 9 months in prison.
The Madrid regional prosecutor’s office on Wednesday (6/3/2024) accused Ancelotti of committing two tax frauds from 2014 to 2015. This matter took place during Don Carlo’s first period at Real Madrid in 2013-2015.
This tax case relates to Ancelotti’s image rights income which reached more than 1 million euros. Prosecutors said the 64-year-old coach lost income related to his image rights which he had transferred to another entity.
The prosecutor stated that during that period, Ancelotti only stated the income he received from Real Madrid and did not declare income from image rights. They accused him of setting up a shell company to hide his additional income.
“The Spanish Ministry of Finance calculated the losses incurred taking into account the forgone rent and income as well as the refunds obtained in the amount of €1,062,079 (€386,361 in the 2014 fiscal year and €675,718 in the 2015 fiscal year),” read the prosecutor’s statement, as reported by ESPN.
The prosecutor asked Carlo Ancelotti appear in court for an undetermined time. If found guilty in the eyes of the law, Don Carlo could face a criminal sentence of 4 years and 9 months.
The case experienced by Ancelotti is not the first time this has occurred in Spanish football. Matador State tax authorities are investigating players and coaches who evaded taxes, including image rights income, in the past decade.
Ex-Barcelona Lionel Messi was convicted in 2016 of tax fraud and paid a fine to avoid a 21-month prison sentence. Cristiano Ronaldo was also guilty of tax evasion while playing for Real Madrid and agreed to pay a fine of 19 million euros.
