Mar 6, 2024 at 11:48 AM Update: an hour ago

The police arrested three men on Tuesday for possible involvement in explosions in a shopping center in Arnhem. The trio is still in custody.

It concerns an eighteen-year-old Amsterdam resident, an eighteen-year-old man from Hoofddorp and a nineteen-year-old man from Hoofddorp.

In the night of Thursday 8 to Friday 9 June last year, two explosions took place in the Elderveld shopping center in Arnhem-Zuid.

Suspicious packages were found in the shopping center the night before. Mayor Ahmed Marcouch therefore decided to close the two cafes where the suspicious packages were found – Sofram and Diner 66 – for two weeks.

One of the explosions took place at one of the buildings where a suspicious package had already been found. The other explosion hit an adjacent building. No one was injured, but the explosions caused significant damage.

Police shared photos of two people who may be behind the package and the explosions. It is unclear whether these people were arrested on Tuesday.
