An unpleasant surprise awaited a player of the British “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” when he needed the well-known “telephone help” in order to answer a question. He decided to call his wife but an “unknown” man answered the phone. The presenter made sure to reassure the participant that it was something innocent, perhaps an automated message.
Specifically, the show’s host, Jeremy Clarkson, asked him a difficult question about which days are part of the weekend in Germany, and the contestant was confused by the suggested answers available to him.
According to the Sun newspaper, the player is seen saying:
«My wife’s aunt has lived in Germany for over 50 years, my wife has been there a few times. My wife, who under other circumstances would probably be in the audience, is now at home and will be able to answer the phone».
The host gave the green light to call his wife, but it was a male voice that answered when the player called home.
Immediately Jeremy Clarkson tried to lighten the awkward moment by joking:
«This was another man who just answered your phone, relax, relax, he may be completely innocent».
The player managed to walk away from ‘Millionaire’ with £64,000.
