DUBLIN
More than half of all organizations (55%) believe it is extremely or very important to have a digital trust framework. This is proven by the study that will be published shortly State of Digital Trust from the global IS/IT association, ISACA.
Digital trust is defined as trust in the integrity of relationships, interactions and transactions within a connected digital ecosystem. An early look at ISACA’s research into the behavior underlying digital trust reveals its benefits: better reputation (71%), more reliable data to inform decision-making (60%), lower number of data breaches (60%) and cybersecurity incidents (59%) and increased customer loyalty (56%).
ISACA meets these needs through a new one Digital Trust Ecosystem Framework (DTEF). It aims to help companies focus on trust by using technologies securely, increasing collaboration, reducing response time to unforeseen events, focusing on brand management and improving financial health through increased trust.
“A high level of digital trust ultimately improves financial performance by reducing the risk of data breaches and cyberattacks and related fines,” said Shannon Donahue, ISACA Chief Content and Publishing Officer. “These companies also receive a higher return on digital investments. The Digital Trust Ecosystem Framework helps with both.”
The Digital Trust Ecosystem Framework (DTEF) and portfolio of resources helps companies understand the practices they need to implement to strengthen their trustworthiness and reputation. The focus is on the most important components of digital trust: integrity, security, confidentiality, endurance, quality, reliability and self-confidence.
After a test version, with the help of which ISACA was able to incorporate the practical opinions of global experts into the final version, the newly released Digital Trust Ecosystem Framework focuses on people, processes, technology and organization. These are broken down into cultural domain, human factors, demeanor, empowerment and support, guidance and review, and architecture to familiarize organizations with trust-building factors, practices, activities, and outcomes as components of their trust journey. The framework is intended to be compatible with many existing frameworks and best practices such as COBIT, ITIL, GDPR and numerous ISO and NIST standards.
“Strengthening digital trust is not a one-time exercise, but an ongoing practice of proactively building relationships between companies and their stakeholders, which is both responsible and profitable while addressing underlying ethical issues,” says Rolf von Roessing, member of the ISACA Digital Trust Working group and leader in the development of the framework, as well as partner and CEO at FORFA Consulting AG. “When there is a framework to guide companies as they integrate trustworthiness into their technology and operations, they cover all bases, minimize risk and maximize impact.”
“In a technology and business environment that is changing faster than ever before, Digital Trust is a key differentiator that provides stability, improves reputation and ultimately leads to success,” said Erik Prusch, ISACA CEO. “Practices for building digital trust require planning. ISACA offers companies transformation tools to build trust with their stakeholders with correspondingly positive impacts.”
ISACA also publishes an interactive guide to help companies use the framework effectively. The DTEF Interactive Guide allows users to explore the content of the framework with 3D modeling, application examples and visual representations. A DTEF implementation guide and a short course introducing the Digital Trust Ecosystem Framework are also available. ISACA has also developed the Digital Trust Board Briefing, which is available exclusively to members for 60 days, after which it is available to the general public.
Later in the year, ISACA is planning the Digital Trust Ecosystem Framework Foundation Course and a Digital Trust Ecosystem Framework Foundation Certificate.
