Cast and Crew of ‘The Cleaning Lady’ Mourn the Loss of Adan Canto Ahead of Season 3 Premiere
As fans eagerly await the Season 3 premiere of the hit show ‘The Cleaning Lady,’ the cast and crew are still grappling with the loss of one of their own. Adan Canto, who played the beloved character Arman, tragically passed away before filming for the new season began. In a recent interview with Deadline, star Elodie Yung opened up about the impact of Canto’s absence on set.
Yung, who starred alongside Canto in the first two seasons, revealed that she couldn’t help but think of him while filming Season 3. “I am not doing anything on set, not once, without Adan in mind,” she shared. The bond between the cast and crew was evident as Yung expressed her grief over losing a partner and a friend. “This crew is very close to each other. We’ve been doing it for three seasons…it’s been tragic, and it’s been very painful,” she said.
Despite the heartbreak, Yung emphasized the importance of honoring Canto’s memory through their work. While she couldn’t provide specific details about how the story has changed in light of Canto’s passing, she assured fans that the team has taken great care to pay tribute to him. “They’ve had a lot of meetings to make sure that his memory has been honored, that we would do things the right way for him and for his family—for our audience as well,” Yung explained.
Fox, the network airing ‘The Cleaning Lady,’ has already revealed that Canto’s character, Arman, goes missing at the beginning of Season 3. The storyline for this season will revolve heavily around the search for him. In a touching gesture, Fox included a title card during the premiere episode to honor the late actor.
As for what viewers can expect from Season 3, Yung shared a few tantalizing details. The season picks up a few months after the events of the Season 2 finale, with Thony, Yung’s character, facing new challenges. “At the beginning of the season, you find Thony left alone facing the deportation of her sister-in-law. She doesn’t have any resources that she can rely on,” Yung revealed. This lack of support forces Thony to become even more resourceful, pushing her to her limits.
Adding to the excitement, Season 3 introduces a new adversary for Thony in the form of Ramona Sanchez, played by Kate Del Castillo. Ramona is described as an elegant and regal matriarch with a hidden ruthless side. While Thony is known for her resourcefulness, Ramona’s presence blurs the lines and challenges her in ways she never expected. Yung praised Del Castillo’s performance, noting her character’s subtlety, intelligence, strength, and vulnerability.
Joining Del Castillo in the cast are Santiago Cabrera as Ramona’s brother, Clayton Cardenas as her trusty lieutenant, and Brandon Jay McLaren and JB Tadena in undisclosed roles.
