Emirati Astronauts Noura Al Matroushi and Mohammed Al Mulla Graduate from NASA Astronaut Programme

Yesterday, Emirati astronauts Noura Al Matroushi and Mohammed Al Mulla received the astronaut badge during their graduation from the NASA Astronaut Programme, in a ceremony organized by the Johnson Space Center in the United States of America on the occasion of the graduation of the astronauts from NASA’s training program for the year 2021.

The graduation ceremony for members of the second batch of the “Emirates Astronaut Programme” comes after they received various training over a period of two years, which included how to manage various tasks on the International Space Station, training on the station’s main systems, controlling robots, and training to fly T-38 aircraft, in addition to… Training for spacewalk missions outside the station, long-term stays at the international station, Russian language skills, and other training.

The two Emirati astronauts joined NASA’s advanced training program at the beginning of 2022. During that period, they underwent a group of intensive training and applied exercises in the field of geology, to learn to draw a geological map of both the Moon and Mars, and future human missions for them, and study the weather conditions in space, and study surface activity. Such as volcanoes, and the use of specialized scientific equipment.

It is noteworthy that the UAE Astronaut Programme, which is managed by the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, is one of the projects funded by the Information and Communications Technology Fund, affiliated with the Communications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority.
