Super Tuesday Results: Biden and Trump Lead in Early Projections, Key Races Still Undecided
As Americans across the country cast their votes on Super Tuesday, the results are starting to trickle in, giving us a glimpse of who might be leading the pack in the race for the presidency. With more than one-third of the total delegates in both the GOP and Democratic primaries up for grabs, this is a crucial day for the candidates.
So far, we have the projected winners in a few key states. President Joe Biden has come out on top in the Iowa Democratic mail-in caucus, as well as the Democratic primaries in Vermont, Virginia, and North Carolina. On the Republican side, former President Donald Trump has secured victories in the Virginia and North Carolina primaries.
However, there are still some key races that remain undecided. One closely watched contest is the North Carolina GOP governor primary, where Republican Mark Robinson is projected to come out on top. This race has garnered national attention and is considered one of the most closely watched gubernatorial races in the nation. On the Democratic side, Josh Stein, the state’s attorney general, is the front-runner to advance to November, although the final projection for this race is yet to be announced.
As we await more results throughout the evening, there are several states where polls have just closed or will close soon. At 8 p.m. ET, final polls close in Alabama, Maine, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. Half an hour later, at 8:30 p.m. ET, polls will close in Arkansas, and Democratic caucuses will end in American Samoa. Finally, at 9 p.m. ET, polls will close in Colorado, Minnesota, and Texas.
Exit polls are also providing some insight into the sentiments of voters. In North Carolina, nearly two-thirds of primary voters stated that they would still consider Donald Trump fit for the presidency even if he were convicted of a crime. A similar sentiment was expressed by slightly over half of GOP primary voters in Virginia.
Looking at the bigger picture, it seems that Donald Trump’s team is confident in his ability to secure victories on Super Tuesday. The former president is hoping to extinguish any hope for GOP challenger Nikki Haley’s campaign. On the Democratic side, while Joe Biden is not facing any major competition, he is aiming for a strong showing as he gears up for a possible rematch with Trump in November. Biden’s campaign has recently announced their strongest month of grassroots fundraising in February, indicating strong support from his base.
As the night progresses, we eagerly await the final results from all the Super Tuesday contests. The outcome of these races will have a significant impact on the momentum and trajectory of the presidential campaign, setting the stage for what is sure to be an intense and closely fought election in November.
