The reactions have hit red with the Athenians questioning whether the appointment of Andreas Papandreou “junior” to the position of managing director in the Public Company that manages the National Garden of the Municipality of Athens, was made with objective criteria and if he is sufficient to take this position .
But what seemed to trouble the Athenians the most and stirred up the Internet is when they remembered Haris Doukas declaring that he is coming to this position to fight nepotism. But with the “good morning” he appoints the fourth generation of Papandreou. What has come before?
The phone call for placement
As BIMAtodotis reveals, after information he had from a close associate of the Mayor (and former minister of the PASOK), there was a phone call to appoint Andreas Papandreou as director of the National Garden. Not something surprising in the Greek political context, since in many cases officials are appointed to critical positions after phone calls from former prime ministers or powerful businessmen. In this case, the one who called Haris Doukas to hire his son was the former Prime Minister and former President of PaSoK Giorgos Papandreou.
Mr. Doukas immediately satisfied the “ruffian” (sorry for the request, I wanted to say) since he considered that it is a secondary position, unpaid, that does not need special qualifications, nor… ASEP. After all, no one knew the managers of the National Garden until now. He of course asked about his qualifications and experience, learned that he had worked in ecology (and green) and passed his decision by the Municipal Council, where it was unanimously accepted. And the opposition of Kostas Bakoyannis raised no objections.
What is the position of the director of the National Garden?
But what does it mean to be the director of the National Garden? I asked a close associate of the Mayor (the former minister of PASOK) and he told me that it is nothing important, he just takes care of the greenery, feeds the ducks, keeps the garden clean, etc. Nothing important, that is, if it is as the former executive tells me of PaSoK.
But how long does the term of office of the director of the National Garden last? As long as the Mayor wants, although Andreas Papandreou will also go through an evaluation… However, the citizens who voted for Mr. Doukas remember that debate with Kostas Bakoyannis who said that “when I am elected mayor, I will put an end to nepotism”. However, the mayor states in his announcement that he did not appoint anyone, the Municipal Council simply approved the appointment of Andreas Papandreou.
