The Platinum Awards for Ibero-American cinema are just around the corner, and among the outstanding candidates for best male performance is the talented Cuban actor Eduardo Martínez.
Graduated from the Faculty of Performing Arts of the University of the Arts of Cuba in 1996, Eduardo is the founder of the renowned El Ciervo Encantado Theater group. With this company, he has toured the main theater venues in America, Europe and Asia, consolidating his presence in the international theater arena. In 2011, he founded his own company, La Isla Secreta, bringing his experience and knowledge to the United States and Mexico through workshops and conferences.
In 2017, Eduardo Martínez He obtained his Master’s degree in Direction at the University of the Arts of Cuba, further expanding his artistic horizon. It is not surprising that this multifaceted actor successfully ventured into cinema in 2016 with the film “Santa y Andrés”, participating in renowned festivals such as TIFF and the San Sebastián Film Festival. His achievements were highlighted with awards for best male performance at the Miami Film Festival and the Sto Domingo Global Film Festival, as well as a nomination in the best actor category at the Fénix Awards.
His most recent achievement in film “Feet in the sand”, directed by Gustavo Ramos Perales, has once again placed him among the candidates for the Platinum Awards. In this film, he shares a cast with Judith Rodríguez, Larissa Dones, Modesto Lacen and Nancy Millan. The plot centers on Toña, a Dominican woman who escapes her country in search of a better life, and Gregorio, an exiled Cuban doctor trapped in Puerto Rico. The relationship between the two, arising from an accident, becomes a crucial element for both characters.
The Platino Awards, created by the Audiovisual Producers’ Rights Management Entity (Egeda) in collaboration with several entities, seek to recognize professionals in the Ibero-American film industry. This recognition not only honors Eduardo Martínez as an exceptional actor, but also highlights the quality and Cuban talent on the international stage.
