56 detained during Navalni’s funeral – 2024-03-05 14:07:19

The Russian police arrested at least 56 people this Friday in fourteen cities in this country during the farewell day of the Russian opposition leader, Alexei Navalnywho was buried after dying two weeks ago in an Arctic prison.

According to OVD-Info, an organization that protects the rights of detainees, the cities with the highest number of arrests are Novosibirsk, Yekaterimburgo y Moscowwith 14, 10 and 6 detained, respectively.

Police also made arrests in Voronezh, Boiler, Nizhny Novgorod, Vladikavkaz, St. Petersburg, Ulan-Ude y Sochiamong other.

Among those detained is the vice president of the Moscow branch of the opposition party Yábloko, Andréi Mórevarrested by police in the Moscow metro after the funeral, OVD-Info indicated.

As Morev told the Telegram channel Mozhem obyasnit (We can explain), law enforcement officers arrested him and a colleague at the Mariino station, near the cemetery, and have not yet charged him.

Two other people were arrested in the vicinity of the cemetery, according to the journalist. Alexandr Pliuschev and the Telegram channel Avtozak Livededicated to reporting arrests.

According to the channel, one of them was arrested after shouting “Who killed Navalni?”

At the Liublinó metro station, two stations from the cemetery, the former vice president of the PARNAS movement, Mikhail Shneider, was arrested, according to OVD-info.

According to the police, Shnéider “looked like a man declared wanted.”
