The Governor of the Bank of Greece, Giannis Stournaras, paid a working visit to Cyprus on Friday, at the invitation of the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC), Konstantinos Herodotos, who after the meeting stated that our already close ties are being strengthened and new paths are being opened. for further cooperation in areas important to the financial sector and financial stability.
As BIMAtodotis underlines, it was without a doubt an important visit given that Yiannis Stournaras still had meetings, both with the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulidis, and with the Minister of Finance Makis Keraynos, with whom he discussed issues of the Greek economy as well as the banking system in general.
In fact, during the visit, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the two central banks in areas such as Supervision (on-site inspections, cyber resilience, ICT risks), financial research, Payment Systems, money laundering prevention, climate change, financial literacy actions etc.
It is worth noting that the visit follows a corresponding working visit by Bank of Greece Deputy Governor Christina Papakonstantinou in September 2023, during which a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two central banks was agreed upon
