Powerful magnetic storms are expected in the near future.
Forecast of solar and geomagnetic activity for March 4-6, 2024 published US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Space Weather Prediction Center.
Geomagnetic storms are classified by power level – K-index – from 2 to 9. The higher the K-index, the stronger the storm and its consequences and impact on people and equipment.
Note that the forecast may still change, as solar activity researchers update their data every three hours.
The period of strong magnetic storms continues. On March 4, geomagnetic activity with a K-index of 7 (red level) is expected, which corresponds to a powerful magnetic storm that can affect people’s well-being. And on March 5, the storm will weaken slightly – to K-index 6 – but will still remain powerful. March 6 it is likely to weaken even more.
