The world-famous writer Gabriel García Márquez has been hospitalized – 2024-03-05 05:18:23

/ world today news/ The world-famous writer Gabriel García Márquez entered a clinic in the capital of Mexico at the beginning of the week. According to the son of the Nobel laureate for literature – Gonzalo García Barchi, the reason his father underwent treatment in hospital was a respiratory disease. He is now being treated with antibiotics.

The 87-year-old writer is believed to have pneumonia.

Márquez is the most popular Spanish-language writer since Cervantes. At 87 years old, he continues to delight his readers.

García Márquez’s most famous novel, One Hundred Years of Solitude (1967), has sold over ten million copies. It depicts life in the mythical South American village of Macondo (which appears in other works by the author and means banana in the Bantu language). For it he received the “Romulo Gallegos” award in 1972.

In 1982, García Márquez was also awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature for lifetime achievement.

In 1999, Gabriel Gracia Marquez was diagnosed with lymphoma – cancer of the lymph glands. He underwent two major operations; the chemotherapy he underwent at a hospital in Los Angeles proved successful and the disease appeared to be cured.

However, this event makes him think that he should start writing his memoirs. “I reduced contact with my friends to a minimum, turned off the phone, postponed all trips and all plans. I locked myself in the room and started writing every day, without any interruption,” the writer told the Colombian newspaper El Tiempo. In 2002 – 3 years later, he published “I live to tell” (Vivir para Contarla) – the first volume of the memoir trilogy.
