Over 90 percent of the residents of the city “Gotse Delchev” in Sofia submitted negative opinions regarding the preparatory actions of the Metropolitan Municipality to introduce a green zone in their neighborhood. This became clear during the second public discussion on the matter, held by the mayor of the “Triaditsa” region, Dimitar Bozhilov. He announced that after the first debate in January, 733 reviews of people living in the complex, in neighboring neighborhoods and people from other parts of the capital, related to “Gotse Delchev” were submitted to the administration. Of these, 50 opinions support the inclusion of the neighborhood in the perimeter with paid parking, and 539 people have categorically opposed it. In 21 letters there is no expressed opinion for or against the green zone, and in them the analysis of the situation in “Gotse Delchev” is more emphasized. 121 are the opinions of people from other parts of Sofia, which were also taken into account, it became clear from the words of the regional mayor. The project of the local administration envisages that paid parking will cover the space between “Bulgaria” Blvd., “Gotse Delchev” Blvd., “P. Yu. Todorov”, Perlovska Reka (incl. bl. 261) and “Todor Kableshkov” Blvd.
Once again, Bozhilov said that he is a supporter of paid parking, as, according to him, it significantly solves the problem of parking spaces in the neighborhoods where it has been introduced. The regional mayor also stated that no one in the Metropolitan Municipality has yet wanted his administration to work on the preparation for the introduction of a zone in “Gotse Delchev”. At the same time, however, Bozhilov said that, in his opinion, she was “knocking on the door”. He recalled that by law he is not obliged to hold a public hearing, but he did so anyway so that he would have information if he was asked “months or years from now”. The decision to introduce a blue and green zone is taken by the Metropolitan Municipal Council.
To a comment by a resident of the neighboring neighborhood “Strelbishte” that if a green zone is introduced only in “Gotse Delchev”, this will lead to car pressure on his complex, Bozhilov responded that there is no option to introduce paid parking only in “Gotse Delchev” “, without covering “Shooting Range”. In the last mandate of the SOS, however, there was also a public discussion on the topic in “Strelbishte”, which ended with a total preponderance of the opponents of the green zone.
As in the previous discussion in “Gotse Delchev”, the people from the neighborhood motivated their reluctance to pay to park in front of their blocks by the fact that in recent years the Municipality of Stolichna has primarily taken away parking spaces with construction permits, such as it has not done enough to create new ones. A large part of the speakers asked the authorities in Sofia to build multi-storey parking lots in “Gotse Delchev”, to free the area from out-of-use vehicles, to optimize car traffic and then to think about introducing paid parking.
As “Sega” wrote, in January it was reported that among the 21,000 residents with address registration in “Gotse Delchev”, there are 5,601 registered cars according to traffic police data, and 5,000 parking spaces provided by the Central Municipal Administration. A month ago, the residents of the neighborhood once again categorically announced against the introduction of a green zone. As their main argument, they pointed out that the parking problem occurs in the evening, when residents return from work and when the zone is no longer functional. They called on the municipality to implement specific measures for individual parts of Sofia, and not to impose blue and green zones everywhere. For “Gotse Delchev”, for example, the speakers stated that they would support the introduction of an evening zone.
In their reluctance to allow the green zone, the residents of “Gotse Delchev” join those from several other neighborhoods of Sofia. In recent years, it has expanded into residential areas. “Yavorov” and in a new share of the residential complex “Ivan Vazov”, as well as in Zone B-19. After that, however, paid parking was rejected in “Reduta”, “Izgrev” and in “Strelbishte”, and the arguments were similar to those in “Gotse Delchev”.
