In response to the Super League, and to the continuous complaints from dozens of clubs, UEFA decided to completely overturn the current Champions League system.
Although there has been talk of a new format for months, it was not until this Monday that it was confirmed what the new paths the competition will take will be.
The most important change that the most prestigious club tournament in Europe will have will be in the first round of the final phase of the championship, since the decision of the highest body in European football is the elimination of the group stage.
In this way, the competition would become a league of 36 teams, in which there will be two pots and each team, by draw, will play a total of eight games in the first round.
Who will qualify for the finals in the new Champions League format?
Only the top eight teams in the table will qualify for the next round, while the rest of the places, which would be eight, will be defined through playoffs.
In detail, these keys would be played between the teams located between squares nine and 24. From then on, the teams that remain from 25 to 36 will be eliminated.
