People’s anger also at the stadiums for the crime in Tempe – 2024-03-04 17:52:41

The outpouring of public anger over the Tempe crime that claimed the lives of 57 innocent souls was transferred to the Super League 1 stadiums. PAE, footballers and fans in the games of the 25th matchday of the league did not forget the dark night of February 28, 2023.

Especially the fans of the teams with slogans and banners erupted against the authorities who led to the death of 57 people, mostly young children and students, demanding justice

and justice. Last Wednesday, after the strikes that paralyzed the whole country, the marches and the mobilizations, the fans took the baton in the stadiums. “It wasn’t an accident, it was murder…” was the central slogan shouted by the fans of all the teams, who went to watch the games of the packed competition. The fields became… squares.

It was shocking the fact that in every stadium that hosted a SL1 match, in every stand, the voices of the fans joined the anger of the society, asking that the tragedy in Tempi not be forgotten and that those responsible be imprisoned. Crime must not go unpunished.

The world, the fans do not forget, do not forgive and will not allow any cover-up. From the first to the last minute of the games, the fans with slogans stood by the families of the victims of the murder train.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and former Transport Minister Kostas Karamanlis were personally targeted by the fans.

It was announced by the organizing authority that “in all matches of the 25th matchday of the Super League championship, a minute’s silence will be observed before the start of the matches, in memory of the victims of the tragic train accident in Tempe in 2023”.

The following banners with very clear messages were “raised” on the railings and platforms of the stadiums: • In Leoforo (Panathinaikos – Aris): “The souls of the dead in the valley of Tempi were the sacrifice for the politicians’ bribes” • In Serres (Panserraikos – PAOK): “Their profits or our lives”, “57 dead demand justice”, “None of you guilty, your main concern is immunity”

• In Tripoli (Asteras – Kifissia): “Send when you arrive, TEMPI 28-2-23”

• In Agrinio (Panitolikos – Olympiakos): “One year of cover-up and entanglement, your crime will not be forgotten.”

The names of the 57 victims appeared in the matrixes of the Panaitolikos stadium. The family of the Agrinio team, wanting to honor the memory of the dead, before the start of the match with the “red and white” symbolically released 57 black balloons, as many as the souls that were lost so unfairly.

The date of the Tempe tragedy was written on a blouse that Nikos Karelis wore through his jersey. During the celebrations of the home team’s goal next to the scorer Fr. Duarte, the Greek forward, lifted his shirt, showing the camera “28/02”.

• In Volos (Volos – OFI), sports fans held up a piece of cardboard that read: “Tempi, I don’t forget, 28.2.2023-28.02.2024”.

• In Peristeri (Atromitos – Lamia): “Not to cover up the state crime in Tempi, silence is complicity”

• At the Opap Arena (AEK – PAS Ioannina) a banner called for “Resistance to oblivion – 28/2/2023”, while before the start of the match when a minute’s silence was held in memory of the victims, Union fans shouted “Immortals” and slogans against the government. However, there were also reactions to the crime in Cyprus. Before the start of the Cup match against AEZ, small friends of Omonia held a banner dedicated to the tragedy of Tempi, which read: “One year without you”.

With slogans and banners, Greek sports fans demand justice and justice for the 57 souls lost in the horrific accident of February 28, 2023
