That’s why I wondered why it was raining all the way Sofia-Plovdiv like in the mythological Macondo.
When a magician passes away, it is understandable that everyone suffers for him. Witchcraft is a unique craft. 10 times in this life I have read articles that the Magician is already gone, that he will not return. They circulated his obituary. They suffered beforehand. We were bombarded with quotes.
Now – they say – the Magician has really left. It was final.
How can you believe it? So far he has always returned. Maybe death doesn’t apply to wizards either. Who exactly died? The rain should know better than us.
I have a favorite book by Marquez – “Chronicle of a Foretold Death”. It is not lavish, nor is it characteristic of him. There he has created such a maddening atmosphere of predestination that one feels a little afraid. The one who kills does the impossible in order not to kill, but in the end he fails to escape from the social order that drives him to the crime. Beyond the mythological Macondo, I will always try to remember this from Márquez’s characters – the man who resists the bad in himself, who tries to escape his fate, who refuses to submit to predestination. This is one of the possible revolutions in our own lives, and even if it ends in failure, it is probably better to have tried than to stand and stare at the rain. The wizard knew how to tell this story. For this he will be missed by the whole world. How many people can we say the same for, eh?
