MetroTimes (Surabaya) – The recent surge in cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) that occurred in East Java and several regions in Indonesia has also become a special concern for Khofifah Indar Parawansa.
How could it not be, throughout 2024 until the third week of February, dengue fever cases in East Java have reached 3,638 cases. Throughout 2024, the highest dengue fever rate will occur in Probolinggo Regency, reaching 600 cases, while in Surabaya itself there are currently more than 30 cases recorded.
The Governor of East Java for the 2019-2024 period said that the number of East Java dengue fever cases this year has increased rapidly compared to 2023. Where throughout 2023, the cumulative number of cases transmitted through the Aedes aegypti mosquito in East Java reached 9,041 cases.
“If you look at the trend, at the beginning of 2024 East Java dengue fever cases are very high. “So what is important for the community to do is increase vigilance so that they don’t become infected with dengue fever,” stressed Khofifah, Monday (4/3/2024).

For this reason, the woman who is also Chair of PBNU and General Chair of PP Muslimat NU appealed to the public to reactivate the movement to eradicate mosquito nests (PSN).
This movement is quite easy. Namely by implementing 3M Plus. Namely throwing away used items, closing shelters, and also draining water reservoirs.
Apart from that, other plus-plus preventive activities can also be carried out that can prevent the spread of dengue fever. Such as using mosquito nets, avoiding the habit of piling or hanging clothes, and also using anti-mosquito lotion.
“In fact, in the villages there are also mosquito larvae monitors or mosquito larvae monitors. The hope is that in times of dengue fever alert like this, monitoring of larvae must be intensified. “This is important to avoid the spread of dengue fever,” stressed Khofifah.
Not only that, Khofifah also invited the public to actively complete dengue vaccination for children and adults. The reason is that dengue vaccination can be recommended for ages 6-45 years.
“Because dengue fever is quite dangerous and can result in death if not treated quickly and carefully, the dengue hemorrhagic fever vaccine is a preventive key in reducing the risk of transmission and the impact of this disease,” explained Khofifah.
Currently, the tetravalent dengue vaccine (TDV) provides protection against four types of dengue viruses, starting from DENV1, DENV2, DENV3, to DENV4. This vaccine contains a weakened dengue virus, so it does not cause disease, but can stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies.
The dengue hemorrhagic fever vaccine has an important role in preventing dengue fever, especially in areas where the dengue virus is widespread.
Although vaccines do not provide total guarantees against disease, their use is expected to reduce the severity of symptoms and the risk of developing dengue fever, as well as help control the spread of disease in the community.
“So, the key to preventing dengue fever is 3M Plus and vaccination. “Let the community implement 3M Plus and Vaccination to achieve zero deaths from dengue,” concluded Khofifah.
